I'm taking a step back from new clients through summer 2026 — wrapping up advanced training and giving the families I'm already with my full attention. I'll be back in the fall. If you're due then or later, reach out closer to your due date and I'd love to connect. Bilingüe — escríbeme en español si prefieres.

Zarelle Veraquín

About me

I became a doula because no one should walk into their birth feeling alone or unheard. After supporting friends through their births and seeing how much of a difference one calm, informed person can make, I knew this was my calling.

I work with first-time parents almost exclusively — not because I don't love experienced parents, but because there's something special about that first journey. The questions that feel silly (they're not). The fear that something will go wrong (we'll prepare for everything). The moment it hits you that you're actually doing this (I'll be right there).

My style is evidence-based and deeply personal. I'll help you build a birth plan that reflects what matters to you, not what's trending on Instagram. And when that plan changes — because sometimes it does — I'll help you feel good about the new one too.

Based in West Philly. Bilingual (English and Spanish). Coffee enthusiast, terrible knitter, excellent hand-holder.

Ask a Doula: Open Q&A for Expecting Parents

Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Every other month
Online · Zoom (link sent after registration)
Free

No topic is off-limits, no question is too basic. Every other month I host a casual virtual session where expecting parents can ask whatever's been on their minds. Past questions have included: "Is it weird to not want anyone in the room?" (no). "What actually happens if I need a C-section?" (we'll talk through it). "How do I get my partner to stop reading Reddit?" (still working on that one). Show up with your questions, your partner, your anxiety, or all three. It's free and there's no pitch at the end.

Exactly the kind of support I didn't know I needed

Preethi, April 2025

I'm an introvert. I wasn't sure I wanted someone in the room who I barely knew. My midwife actually suggested I at least meet Zarelle, so I did — and I almost immediately changed my mind. She wasn't loud or effusive. She listened more than she talked. She asked good questions. During labor, she was present without being in the way, and she seemed to know by instinct when to offer something and when to just be quiet. My partner told me afterward that having her there made him feel less alone too. He could step away for a minute without worrying I'd be without support. That's not something I'd thought about. If you're on the fence about whether you're a "doula person": you might just need the right doula.

She helped us grieve the plan and celebrate the birth

Tamara & James, June 2025

We had a detailed birth plan. Unmedicated, delayed cord clamping, immediate skin-to-skin, the whole thing. Then at 39 weeks, my OB found a reason I needed an induction, and everything we'd prepared for felt like it was slipping away. Zarelle didn't try to talk us out of our feelings. She sat with us, helped us figure out what still mattered most from our original plan, and rewrote it for the new situation. By the time we walked into the hospital, we weren't mourning the plan we'd lost — we were excited about the one we had. Our son was born healthy after 14 hours. Nothing went the way we'd imagined. It was still the best day of our lives.

She made us feel like we could do this

Alex & Riley, October 2025

My partner and I were terrified. First baby, no family nearby, and every birth story we'd heard was a horror story. Zarelle changed all of that. From our first meeting, she made everything feel manageable. She didn't sugarcoat anything, but she also didn't let us spiral. When I asked a question she'd probably heard a thousand times, she answered it like it was the first time. During labor, she was incredible — knowing when to coach, when to step back, when to make my partner laugh. Our daughter's birth was hard but it was ours, and Zarelle helped us own every minute of it.
